Ballard Locks

Perhaps one of my favorite Tourist Spots in this city is the Ballard Locks.  We went with my parents with the thought to explore the surrounding gardens a bit….but we didn’t get past the boat locks and salmon ladder.  We wound up with a fun group in the ladder area that cheered heartily every time a salmon made it up another rung.   I had Claire on my hip….so not too many photos.  She’s enthusiastic with her movements and I have to concentrate on her 🙂

Fun side note:  the locks are staffed by the US Corps of Engineers….which is the branch of the National Guard that my dad retired from years ago.  I’d noticed the castle insignia in previous visits, but forgot about it.  Something about that connection to the locks was extra fun and helped me explain a bit better what Papa Hank did while in the military.
